Welcome to my Stories and Lessons Blog, Zoey Marie. Please tell my readers about your new release. What’s the main storyline?
The Adoption Surprise is about twins, Mia and Morgan, separated at birth who are suddenly united. Each of the twins has experienced loss and grief so when they meet for the first time, there is an instant connection. Zach, Mia’s father, and Kelsey, Morgan’s aunt, agree to be friends and to keep the daughters together. But can they ignore their growing feelings when the matchmaking sisters put their plan into action?
I love the twins on the cover. How did the adoption theme develop? My readers are interested in the story behind the story.
I was a huge fan of Sister Sister. An editor for Harlequin Love Inspired posted on social media her love for the show and added that she would love to see a submission that centered around that storyline. I also believe in the gift of adoption. My parents adopted two foster children and I couldn’t imagine my life without them as my siblings. So, it was great to bring an adoption theme with the power of love. This story is inspirational to me and I hope it will do the same for my readers.
Do you normally write romance?
I also write as Michelle Lindo-Rice and I write romances and women’s fiction. I have always loved romances and so, yes, it is wonderful to be able to do so as Zoey Marie Jackson. I have two books coming out next year with Love Inspired.
Lastly, what’s an enduring lesson you’ve learned from being a storyteller?
An enduring lesson that I have learned is that you have to let your character lead the story. It’s great to have certain plot points, but you have a strong, meaningful tale when a reader understands a character’s motivation and what they need to accomplish at the end of the tale.
